Tri-County Swimming Pool Association

MINUTES OF MEETING
October 14, 2003
David Katz called the meeting to order at Riverton Country Club at 8:10 p.m. The Minutes of the June meeting were approved.
There are no new tri county representatives at this time.
Tri county banners have been returned and can be picked up at the conclusion of the meeting.
Treasurer: Paul Patterson reports an ending balance of $23,224.40. After paying the final tri county bills, we should be in good shape mainly due to the increase in fees for the tri county meet.
David Katz reports that he received a call from G.C.I.T. asking for a reservation for 2004. We currently have a reservation for August 7 and 8. There is no obligation here.
Swimming: Ron Kane would like to thank Tavistock Hills for a good job. They worked through all unforeseen hurdles. Thanks also to the reps and officials at the meet.
Computer: Joe Crick reports all reps have received a disk with information on it from 2001 – 2002 and 2003. Any questions see Joe.
B-meets: Art Kollmier states you can e-mail your requests to him. You will get an answer that he has received it. Let Art know a.s.a.p. Do not schedule yourself.
A-meets: David Katz reminds all that July 4th is on a Sunday. Check your "A" schedule and make any changes as soon as possible. Remember – 2 reps must agree to switch the meet. There must be mutual consent.
David states he would like to thank the Executive Board for a job well done in the first year: Joe for his computer information, Paul for his treasury work and handling awards at the tri county meet, John for all his behind the scenes guidance and help and for coordinating the meet weekend security; Ron for his job as swim coordinator and Pat for her timely and efficient secretarial responsibilities. Also, a thank you to Tavistock Hills and Ed and Cathy O’Brien, for chairing the tri county meet. Hope to see the O’Brien’s at the January meeting for their detailed report
Old Business:
In dual meets, we thought in order to keep it honest, make starter call
all swimmers back (dual confirmation with the referee not required). In championships, officials are neutral and the no-recall format will be used.
Comment made to fix equipment and have uniform starters.
Ron Kane states the equipment was a problem. All starters, while qualified and well trained, are different. Following this, the meet ran pretty smoothly. John Mahon states he feels officials are as impartial as possible. Nick Saunders asks if there can be modifications. No – must go by rulebook. John Mahon states the purpose of the rule is to reward swimmers that did it right. Lou D’Angelo feels you need independent rules.
Graduating swimmer chairperson for the next 2 years will be Lou D’Angelo from Wedgewood.
David Katz reports that in July Ken Winter put together the upcoming host clubs. They are: 2004 – Downs Farm 2005 – Sunnybrook 2006 – Meadowbrook
Recommendations for Tri County: Don Heany from Downs Farm will get together with the O’Brien’s. Downs Farm cannot host the meet at their club. Downs Farm can only host indoors. Ron Kane reports it is still cheaper indoors.
Discussion on Tri County 2003
Was the meet faster? No – same time as last year. Irene Binz from Greenfields states Sunday was horrific. There was no camaraderie this year with the split. Parade was ruined. Feels it is like a glorified USS meet. Like to see it outside again. Looking for another answer. No team unity.
Art Kollmier felt it went well, better than in the past. Much discussion.
New Business:
John Mahon discusses a fundraising opportunity. It would be an 8-week subscription to the Inquirer for $28.00. Inquirer will pay the family $20.00. Could be done by individual clubs. Something to think about.
Next meeting will be January 13, 2004 at 8:00 p.m. at Riverton Country Club. The next two will also be held at Riverton on March 9 and May 11.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:15 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Patricia Hafner, Secretary
