Tri-County Swimming Pool Association

MINUTES OF MEETING

January 14, 2003

The meeting at Riverton Country Club was called to order at 8:10 p.m. by David Katz. Minutes from the October 8, 2002 meeting were approved.

Introduction of new tri county representative Marie Walsh from Meadowbrook. Welcome!

Treasurer

Paul Patterson presented the treasurer’s report. The balance of the account was $13,972.00 minus miscellaneous expenses of $615.00 leaving a new balance of $13,356.00. Transfer of signatures has been completed.

Meeting sites

John Mahon reports he is looking for meeting sites. Anyone with suggestions, contact John. Riverton is reserved for March and May meetings. John is exploring Comcast meeting room but no room is large enough. Dates of next meetings are 3/11 and 5/13.

Nick Saunders suggests Fire station at Marlkress.

Swimming

Ron Kane reports tri county qualifying times are under review. Will be out for March meeting. Request to have no guns on deck during dual meet season. Will not make mandatory unless necessary. Opinions in March. If the Colorado goes down, it may have to be used. This does not happen often. If kids have a problem with the noise, please do not do it. Everyone is getting away from guns.

There will be recalls on false starts for dual meets but not for championships.

Championship Meet

Tavistock just received information. No report yet.

Computer

Joe Crick reports on ribbon/medal orders for this year. Ken Winter suggests computer printouts for meet sheets. This will be possible for those clubs who choose. There will be a change at the scoring table. No pencil copies use correction tape. Other clubs can Xerox. Changes in the morning could be done by scoring table, not the coaches. Cards would be 3" by 4". These changes can be done. New meet sheets will be available as samples at the March meeting. Unofficial swimmers will need special handling on the new sheets.

Awards

Ready to issue award for medals and ribbons. If more than l relay gets points, we will need additional ribbons at an additional cost of approximately $2600. We cannot wait until March. We can order generic 2nd and 3rd place ribbons. Relay issue will be voted on at March meeting according to protocol.

"B" Meets

Art Kollmier reports all but 6 clubs have returned their requests. Tentative schedule prepared. Most clubs are not swimming B-Meets on July 2nd, but may swim the A meet scheduled for July 5th instead

Rule Change for Relays

Nick Saunders states after voting on an issue, it was not to be discussed or presented again for a vote for 3 years. We are in violation. We agreed to re-visit the relay issue again this year, as well as the 3-year limit rule.

Original relay change proposal designed to get more kids in meets. Last year, all lanes were official. The results indicate it did not change the overall result of the meet.

Mr. Crick submits a report on how scoring the relays differently would have affected the outcome of the meets.

Much discussion pro and con. The protocol for rule changes remains, make proposal in October, discuss in January and vote in March. This is how it will be done.

New Business

Old Orchard Mini Meet - to be held on July l3, 2003. Packets will come out later

Suggestion to eliminate relay cards for championship meet. We use 12 swimmers off of cards. This is for the timers on deck and has been found to be the best way to check eligibility.

Paul O’Connell of Haddontowne serves as an Ambassador for Penn State Alumni. Penn State would like a presence at tri-county meet. Would this be acceptable? As long as NCAA rules are adhered to, no problem.

Make note of new tri county web site -- www.tricountyswimming.org

Any club needing pool managers, coaches, etc get information to Domenick.

John Mahon is negotiating new contract with G.C.I.T. for upcoming Tri-Counties. Any complaints about food, etc. should go to John to take back to G.C.I.T.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:45 p.m. Next meeting March 11th. Location to be announced.

Respectfully submitted, Patricia Hafner, Secretary
